 About Us

Located in Silicon Valley, your local ESD Association Chapter strives for the advancement of the leading edge theory and practice of electrical overstress (EOS) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) engineering. We are dedicated to the understanding of issues related to electrical transients and electrical overstress, and the application of this knowledge to the solution of problems in consumer, industrial and military applications, including electronic components and manufacturing, as well as in systems, subsystems and equipment.

Founded in 1989, the Silicon Valley EOS/ESD Society is a nonprofit, unincorporated organization and a Chapter of the ESD Association.

2012 Silicon Valley ESD Society

ESD Society of Silicon Valley In Conjunction with ISQED Presents on March 20th, 2012

Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Reliability of Solar Cells- Kent Whitfield, Senior Director of Reliability at Solaria

So you think those solar panels on your house or business will last 30 years? THINK AGAIN!! The solar industry has been doubling its capacity every 12 to 18 months. One consequence of this rapid growth is extremely aggressive cost reduction, in all elements of solar cell construction. Solar cells from certain manufacturers have been failing in large numbers, and NONE of the certification tests are able to determine why. This presentation by Kent Whitfield, Senior Director of Reliability at Solaria will provide an overview of photovoltaic cells with a discussion of observed ESD phenomena still under investigation.

Recent Developments in Integrated Circuit ESD Electronic Design Automation,- Rosario Consiglio, President of Impulse Semiconductor Inc

The ESD verification of a complex IC design is extremely challenging. If your IC design  tape-out date has been pushed back by slow,  inefficient of ESD checks, you have to know relief may be on the way. There has been an extensive effort by several major companies and international organizations like the ESD Association to define ESD checks, and to define

ESD parameters wafer foundry’s must to provide to form a framework for ESD Electronic Design Automation. Certain automated ESD checks defined by the ESD Association and are now possible with tools provided by some EDA vendors. Rosario Consiglio, President of Impulse Semiconductor Inc. will bring you up to date on the status of those efforts. The types ESD verification checks best suited to current EDA tools will be explained, as well as an overview of available tools will be given. If you are a design or design verification professional, don’t miss this presentation!
